Highly recommended.

Outnumbered Series 1 [2007]

Outnumbered Series 1 [2007]

Outnumbered follows the daily chaos of family life with two parents and three young children locked in an unequal contest. Containing strong elements of improvisation, this comedy is an honest portrayal of the well meaning parental incompetence that happens in most homes, as Mum and Dad attempt to raise their kids with the minimum of emotional damage for all concerned.

From the creators of Drop The Dead Donkey, Andy Hamilton & Guy Jenkin, Outnumbered is quite unlike any other family comedy seen before.

Bleak House - BBC (3 Disc Special Edition) [2005]

It's difficult to imagine any dramatisation of 'Bleak House' being better done. The cast is uniformly excellent and the adaptation successfully captures the 'page-turner' quality of the book. Not to be missed.

Ashes to Ashes: Complete BBC Series 1 [2008]

Ashes to Ashes: Complete BBC Series 1 [2008]

I absolutely love this show. I think another reviewer said thirtysomethings will enjoy this more and I have to agree. While Life on Mars was brilliant, a lot of the time it did seem to be nothing more than a pastiche of the brilliant Sweeney and Gene Genie nothing more than a piss-take of the legendary Jack Regan. That is not to slag it off LoM was groundbreaking and I adore John Simm and he made Sam Tyler such an empathetic character it was easy to sympathise with Sam's plight.

However (deep breath)...Life on Mars is a different kettle of fish altogether. The first thing that struck me was how cleverly it is filmed. The opening scenes of 2008 Alex tacking the demented Arthur Layton who is responsible for putting her into the `coma' are filmed in rather muted colours, the shots of London creating a sort of dystopia, then when Alex awakens in 1981 we are met with glorious colour and the whole series remains like this. There is a lot of red in this series (note Gene's car, a lot of Alex's clothes, the colour scheme of the wine bar) but I do recall a proliferation of red in the 80s. Yes, Alex is annoying (especially at the beginning of the series) but like the whole colour scheme thing, I think the whole point of Alex - and to an extent Sam in LoM is to hold a mirror up to ourselves and just how ridiculous some of our values are today and how much brighter and simpler life was back thirty years ago.

I think Keeley Hawes plays Alex very well and unlike an earlier reviewer, I do think it is easy to empathise with her. The scene in the last episode when she is saying goodbye to her mother is quite emotional because there are many people out there who have lost loved ones and never had the chance to say goodbye. My only small gripe is I think she looks a little too young to be Alex's age. In 1981 `little' Alex seems to be about ten which makes grown up Alex 37, and she doesn't look as though she is in her late thirties.

I can understand why men would feel let down by Gene Hunt in this series, as he is softer and less violent, but as a woman, I find his character sexier in Ashes to Ashes. He's still a dinosaur, but he adores Alex deep down and in the last episode (without giving away the plot) he shows an even softer side. Also, for some weird reason, the final scene of episode one - soundtracked by the fantastic Same Old Scene by Roxy Music - where Gene pours Alex a glass of wine is very sexy, sounds lame, I know, but ladies, watch it and you'll see what I mean.

I can't recommend this series enough, I could watch it again and again and write even more about it. Five Stars all the way!

The Ultimate Bourne Collection Steel box set [2007]

The Ultimate Bourne Collection Steel box set [2007]

I bought this because it would save me space. It's the size of a normal DVD box, feels great and looks slick.

The DVD's in themselve are great as everyone knows. A fourth? It might be in the pipeline but wasn't written by the guy who wrote the original books.

The story as it goes in brief if you haven't already discovered. Bourne is an agent for the US government. Sent to do a job which goes array. He losses his memory and from the beginning of the first film, Bourne tries to recall who he is and tries to work out his memories.

The plot starts in the Med. and takes us on a rollercoaster of a ride. Visiting all the big hitters in Europe. France, Germany, England to the USA for a grand finale.

It's just great.

Topics regularly pop up here and there, Bond or Bourne?

It's Bourne all the way!

And if Holloywood wanted to do a rehash-up of a Bond Vs Bourne film. James would be dead before he could say Jason. It would end up being a trailer to nothing.

Just BUY it!

Stephen Fry in America [2007]

Stephen Fry in America [2007]

This is a brilliant series which shows Stephen Fry travelling around all of America in a black cab. He visits some really unusual places and coupled with his amazing humour and wit its a great dvd! My favourite part was when he was ice fishing, and the ice started to crack! pure tv magic!

The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete First Series

The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete First Series

This is the more "Child Friendly" Spin Off of Doctor Who unlike the adult version of Torchwood, Being a Fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood I thought to give Sarah Jane Adventures a chance and I did and I have always watched it on CBBC, This show has been proven to draw: Child, Teen (Myself being one) and Adults (My Mother Exibit A), Elizabeth Sladen and her Child Companions Maria and Clyde with her adopted son Luke attract Aliens etc. The Series was really good my favourite being Warriors of Kudlak and The Lost Boy, The New Series currently Showing on CBBC is showing real promise even though they replaced Maria it still carries on, If you are looking for a change from Torchwood and Doctor Who or something to entertain you while the shows are on a hiatus I recommened Sarah Jane Advenutres, you will never look back :D

13. The Last of the Time Lords - Trapped on Airhaven, the Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness must rely on Martha to spread the word and save the day. 7/10

Series 3 of Doctor Who has two or three gems but the rest are pretty ordianry. There are a few guest stars (John Simm, Derek Jacobi) and the scripts are good but the real let down is the anit-climatic finale. Built up so well, RTD failed to make it live up to expectations and left most Doctor Who fans disapointed and wanting more. Overall, good, but in the standards of Doctor Who, not the best.

Ugly Betty - Season 2 [2007]

Ugly Betty - Season 2 [2007]

First of all, I really can't compete with the first review on here, as it's fantastic, but I really want to praise Betty as well!

Although season 2 doesn't have such a strong storyline as season 1, hey, it's still Betty! It's still as funny as ever, Marc and Amanda are still brilliant, whether they're together or off scheming by themselves. There are also some very good and unexpected twists in the story, so stay on your toes or you'll get confused! Although the season finale (what I mean by that is the last few episodes) is a bit disappointing, it's almost virtually impossible to go wrong with a bit of Betty.

Overall, it's a great TV show that has given so many people all over the world the confidence to believe in themselves, and it's thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend it!
