The Diving Bell And The Butterfly [2007]

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly [2007]

painful to watch because it uncompromisingly puts you in the head ( literally ) of the central character who can no longer talk and can hardly move - he can still look at women's breasts, which probably makes it even worse! When you realise that it's all true, and that he actually did get a book out by only blinking, it is heartwrenching. You just know it is going to end badly, unless you regard the book's publication as a vindication of the human spirit - I suppose it is , it's just that I didn't feel good about that.

Lost - The Complete Third Season [2007] [2006]

Lost - The Complete Third Season [2007] [2006]

This review will be short and sweet. Most of what needs to be said already has been but for one question; Is Dharma real?
We have found people in hatches pressing buttons and recording information because they have been told to in the style of Stanley Milgram but are we not doing the same? Don't get me wrong; I'm enjoying it immensely, but are we not being played with in Dharma fashion? The story leaps about with very few answers and yet we keep pressing the button (the play button on my DVD)because it seems the right thing to do. I'm convinced that Lost is produced by The Dharma Initiative.

The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency [2008]

The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency [2008]

One of the most beautiful (cinematically and emotionally) moving films of 2008. Everyone should watch it, for pure entertainment and for a tiny insight into another world. A real joy!

Pretty Woman (15th Anniversary Special Edition) [1990]

Pretty Woman (15th Anniversary Special Edition) [1990]

For anyone who hasn't inhabited Earth and missed this one then it comes highly recommended as one of the best fantasy Romantic Comedy drama's with a fantastic soundtrack ranging from Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" from the title and Roxette's classic "It must have been Love"...Richard Gere plays an ultra wealthy business property tycoon Edward Lewis obsessed with the kill but lonely enough to employ the services of an apprentice hooker in Vivian Ward played by Julia Roberts only to find that love can be sought in the strangest places....Welcome to Hollywood and what's your dream...well Vivian wanted all or nothing whilst Edward just wanted a short hire and fire with no strings......what followed was one of the most chemistry based modern romantic comedy drama's of today..it's hard to believe it celebrated it's 15th Anniversary recently....The glamour, glitz, humour, highs and lows are enough to make a grown woman weep which may happen as it's that type of film but with a twist...Pretty Woman is one of those films that stand the test of time with a lot of chemistry mixed with a touch of class....buy it...you'll love it

The World At War - Complete TV Series (11 Disc Box Set)

The World At War - Complete TV Series (11 Disc Box Set)

I remember watching this as a kid and recently saw parts of it again on the History channel and have found it incredibly moving - just the theme music with a series of shocking pictures culminating in the gaunt face of a young girl at the end, is truly chilling. The series examines every aspect and angle of the war in great detail. It does not shy away from some shocking footage and yet never feels like it is revelling in it. It is a serious historical work and yet it never drags. Watching it again I was struck by how many of those interviewed are long dead now, and how lucky I have been to never experience anything like the suffering they endured, and how future generations should never forget the price of their freedom.

Gossip Girl - Season 1 [2007]

Gossip Girl - Season 1 [2007]

Hi there, I'm old enough to remember Beverly Hills 90210,(to whom GG has been compared) and for me, it has never been such a fuzz...and by the way to tell the truth,I've never been too anxious to watch the whole series! However in years I've enjoyed many US series from an an euro perspective (cause I'm italian): Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill for the american idea of the posse of the good old friends, and the updated kind of "coming-to-an age" stories like...

But even most, the shows based on a prevoius strong idea, usually sprung from a book, that in my opinion gives to it that "something" more to help it to become special: in this list for example there are Roswell, and especially Sex and the City! I think Gossip Girl is a sort of spin-off from SATC (with a glimpse from "The Devil wears Prada"too..), the flair of NY city everywhere, especially in the real locations, besides the glamour of fashion all over it, that really is an ispiration for trendsetters and common people everywhere..even the character of Chuck Bass reminds me of Mr Big in his unforgettable luxury black limo..and plus the character of Blair Waldorf,a modern fashion icon who literally dreams in lots of scenes of being Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday or especially Breakfast at Tiffany,of course..if you connect it to the pop-colour style of Sofia Coppola's film "Marie Antoinette", or to a mock of the Great Gatsby and the cliches of top models' world..basically you have it!

By the way it works, that's the good news, because all in all it demonstrates to have a unique way of presenting the story, trhought the voyeristic eye of the omniscent character of the invisible Gossip Girl (who knows if in the end we will know who's behind the mask...), plus tons of witty humour and hot scenes to light the show, and well rounded protagonists to glue people to watch it like...forever! ;-D)

My favourite is the couple of the funny "ex-villain" Chuck and the "fake princess" Blair, they have so much chemestry and tongue-in-the chick kind of dialogues together (it resambles a bit the couple of Seth and Summer from The O.C.: as a matter of fact it comes from one of the producer of GG too), that's a pleasure to follow their story arc..and for the rest, there is also the curiosity to see, like the characters of the two "Cinderella"-brothers from Brooklin, what's the rich city looks like, behind the curtain...so fasten your seat-belt and enjoy this funny and bumpy ride (you can get enough!!) Bye bye***

The Holiday [2006]

The Holiday [2006]

I cannot recomend this film enough! It's funny, its romanitc and an all round great film. The sound track has something that makes you want to play it all over again. Jude Law, Jack Black and Kate Winslet all gave brilliant performances, Cameron's however, lacked the certain pizaz that she ususally has. But over all, one cracking Christmas film!

Pilates Weight Loss Workout For Dummies

Pilates Weight Loss Workout For Dummies

I have never done pilates before and having read other reviews decided to purchase this dvd hoping for a good introduction to a pilates workout. And this is exactly what you'll get. If, like me, you're not a big fan of complicated dance routines done by a bunch of people in garish outfits whose 'ideal' bodies clearly have nothing to do with the exercise performed, you're gonna love this dvd. The exercises are shown in a slow and clear way by a friendly instructor - they are easy to follow even if you're doing it for the first time and effective from the first move. There are additional explanations or more/less advanced alternatives to a given exercise popping up when necessary but this is in no way distracting. The dvd is divided into several sections which makes it handy when you only have 15-20 minutes and want to do a short session at a time. You will not need anything else but a bit of space, bare feet and a mat (unless, like me, you don't mind the carpet). I have found this workout really enjoyable and hopefully so will you.
