One Tree Hill - Series 2

One Tree Hill - Series 2

One tree hill is a fantastic TV show with basketball, relationships and it is full of surprises! You will love it at any age and it is impossible to stop watching...the only thing that stopped me was my own exhaustion!

The Bourne Ultimatum [2007]

The Bourne Ultimatum [2007]

Thoroughly enjoyed this third in the series. Only wish there was a 4th, 5th and more. Bourne is the underdog with the edge over his pursuers, and they continually underestimate him. Typically. Only film I'd maybe rate this against is US Marshalls, with Tommy Lee Jones and Wesley Snipes, but Bourne is better, by far.

Bagpuss : Complete [1974]

Bagpuss : Complete [1974]

Petend you have kids, I bought this because I am a bagpuss fan and even though I am 36 and was single when I bought this I was not discouraged. It brought back my childhood and triggered many great memories of the 70's when my late mother would watch bagpuss with me, heck even my dad likes it. It even helped me nab a girlfriend as after I told her "just because I own the Complete Bagpuss on DVD, I am not a soft touch!" mind you As I work in a nursery this may play a Part.
Bagpuss is Briliant

Doctor Who - The Complete BBC Series 2 Box Set

Doctor Who - The Complete BBC Series 2 Box Set

With this series we are fresh off the regeneration from the previous Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and now David Tennant has a lot to live up to; he does it and he does it with style. Billie Piper comes back as the magical Rose Tyler and we are given a series where she not only has to handle the notion of a different looking Doctor, but she has to handle the fact that she's falling in love with him and we're given hints that he's falling in love with Rose.

Episode 1: New Earth: In the year 5 Billion and 23 the Doctor takes Rose to the new home of the human race, simply called New Earth and he takes her to the aptly named New New York. There the Doctor meets up with an old friend the Face of Boe but he stumbles upon a secret in the hospital basement, who is lurking there and what have they done with Rose?

Episode 2: Tooth and Claw: Landing in 1879 Scotland, the Tenth Doctor and Rose meet Queen Victoria, travelling with her to spend the night at the Torchwood Estate. However, a group of warrior monks have sinister plans for the monarch, and the full moon is about to summon a creature out of legend.

Episode 3: School Reunion: The Doctor goes undercover in a school as John Smith, children are mysteriously going missing and the Doctor needs to find out why. He meets not one but two old friends and Rose finds a bit of competition in one of them.

Episode 4: The Girl In The Fireplace: The Doctor accidentally stumbles across a derelict spaceship that seems to just be floating unmanned. The weirdest thing is that the spaceship has a fireplace but as he looks through it, he discovers it's a time window to 1727 Paris. What he finds there isn't a bunch of French Aristocrats, he finds something much more sinister

Episode 5: Rise of the Cybermen: After the TARDIS makes a crash landing on the Earth of another universe, Rose discovers her father is alive and rich, Mickey encounters his alternative self, and the Tenth Doctor learns one of his oldest and deadliest foes is about to be reborn.

Episode 6: The Age Of Steel: Lumic sends out a signal across London through the earpieces to get everyone walking towards Battersea Power Station to get the upgrade. The Doctor isn't just fighting a robot army, he's fighting the conscience of Rose who's determined to save her Father.

Episode 7: The Idiots Lantern: In 1953 London, the police are abducting people from their homes. The people of Britain gather around their new-fangled "tele-vision" sets to celebrate the new Queen's coronation -- but something strange is affecting the signal.

Episode 8: The Impossible Planet:The TARDIS lands in a base on a planet orbiting a black hole, an allegedly impossible situation -- according to the physics of the show -- that stumps even the Tenth Doctor. The base crew are drilling to the centre of the world, to claim the power that keeps it in orbit for the good of the Human Empire. However, an ancient evil is down there too, and he is awake...

Episode 9: The Satan Pit: With the TARDIS seemingly lost, Rose and the remaining humans are trapped on the base with the possessed Ood, while the planet floats helplessly towards a black hole. Meanwhile, the Tenth Doctor is about to discover exactly what "Beast" is trapped in the heart of the impossible planet...

Episode 10: Love & Monsters: An ordinary man named Elton Pope becomes obsessed with a man called the Doctor and his strange blue box, joining a group of like-minded people in hopes of finding him. But when the mysterious Victor Kennedy joins the group, the fun stops and Elton discovers a darker side to his hobby.

Episode 11: Fear Her: It's the 2012 London Olympics and in one street children are going missing and there's no explanation for it. Rose and the Doctor go on a quest to find out what's happening to the children but the key to this is a young girl called Chloe who likes to draw.

Episode 12: Army Of Ghosts: As the ghosts of loved ones appear, the whole world celebrates. But as the Doctor investigates he believes that there is a more sinister motive behind their appearence. And deep within the Torchwood tower, a mysterious sphere containing the greatest enemies of the Doctor is opened...

Episode 13: Doomsday: Earth becomes the battlefield for the greatest and deadliest war of all time, as the Daleks and the Cybermen clash with the whole universe at stake. The Doctor and Rose, reunited with old friends and Cybermen experts Mickey and Jake, race to find a way to bring the war to an end before it brings about the destruction of the whole of space and time. But the Doctor soon faces an even bigger dilemma - could ending the war mean the death of Rose?

This is an amazing series but we are given an unfortunate goodbye to Rose Tyler, how do we say goodbye? Well you will have to see for yourself.

Tess Of The D'Urbervilles [2008]

Tess Of The D'Urbervilles [2008]

I thought this new BBC dvd was quite good - until near the end when Tess
and Angel are hiding in the empty mansion and we are suddenly confronted
with and orgy of nudity and sex. I think the BBC have lost the plot.
Thomas Hardy's text certainly does not call for such an exhibition.
I think the older versions available have more integrity and artistic
merit.

Still Game: The Christmas and Hogmanay Specials [2007]

Still Game: The Christmas and Hogmanay Specials [2007]

This DVD does actually contain all 4 Christmas and Hogmanay specials that weren't present on any of the series 1-6 DVD's. These are "Cold Turkey", "The Party", "Hootenanny" and "Plum Number". This isn't made very clear on the product information page unfortunately as it suggests just 2 episodes.

Still Game is an absolutely wonderful show in my opinion. Despite watching every episode from series 1-6 more times than I'd care to mention, I still find myself enjoying them just as much, and still laughing out loud.

This is a great wholesome comedy with a really likeable range of characters, and above all, has some very funny storylines and plots.

These 4 episodes are well worth adding to your DVD collection (as are series 1-6).

It was sad to learn that they'd decided to stop making any new series of the show after series 6 (I'm not sure about plans for any more specials like these).

Tinker Bell/Peter Pan (Special Edition) - Double Pack [1953]

Tinker Bell/Peter Pan (Special Edition) - Double Pack [1953]

Joy of joys! Tinkerbell is a 5-star film with jingle-bells on. It's simply magical, and anyone in your household will fall in love with its sparkly, fairy-dusted prettiness.

Peter Pan (the Special Edition, no less) is vintage Disney at its best. In some ways, modern Disney can't quite rival the old stuff, and it's the 1953 film that cemented Tink as Disney's biggest star (for a while there, she was receiving more fan mail than all the other Disney characters *combined*) and created the iconic vision of her in short, green dress and flicky blonde fringe.

The slightly mercenary bit: as I write, Tinkerbell DVD is £11.98 (and, seriously, worth every single penny) and Peter Pan is £7.98 (in and of itself excellent value) totalling £19.96; the box-set containing both, however, is £16.98!

Whether you buy this for a child, friend or for yourself, no-one on earth will fail to be charmed by what could possibly be the very best box-set ever released.

Persuasion : Complete ITV Adaptation [2007]

Persuasion : Complete ITV Adaptation [2007]

This DVD version is absolutely fantastic. I watch it all the time. Both Sally Hawkins and especially Rupert Percy Jones are wonderful in this production. I was caught up with Cpt. Wentworth's cold icy look which gradually turned softer as he realised his feelings for Anne were being revived. I especially loved when they meet in the shop during the rain, when he speaks of how a man cannot overcome such a passion to such a woman, he can barely look at her! The parts were played perfectly and although it differentiates from the book on many levels I adored every second of it. I loved the 1995 version but Cpt. Wentworth was not how I imagined - I much prefer the RPJ eye candy with his dulcet dones declaring his undying love for Anne Elliot.

5 Stars. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys heartfelt, delightful romance.

Family Guy Season 5

Family Guy Season 5

Family Guy created by Seth MacFarlane is an animated television show which is based in the fictional town of Quahog. The show follows the Griffin family comprising of Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Stewie and their dog Brian. Not to forget a whole host of neighbours that live along side them on Spooner Street.

I was very eager to watch the fifth season of Family Guy after the brilliant forth season (of which I've still to review, but I never seem to review anything in order these days.) But unfortunately I feel that this is the weakest link of the Family Guy Saga. They say things get better with age but perhaps this is Family Guys midlife crisis, where the episodes are simply not at their best. The comedy formula is a difficult one to get right, but up until Seth MacFarlane and his team have managed pretty much perfectly, so it's a shame that the fifth season fails to shine.

This box set contains fourteen episodes spread over three disks. Normally anything from Family Guy would automatically gain five stars from me, but in this case, I struggled to continue watching the episodes. The famous (or rather infamous) humour combined with the frequent flashbacks left me laughing - but not falling off my chair like I usually do with Family Guy. The episodes seem boring and to be honest also seem rather rushed and at times even repetitive.

But thankfully it's not all bad. The characters as usual are in great form, especially Stewie (my personal favourite). A few of the episodes such as "The Courtship of Stewie's Father," and "Sibling Rivalry" are fantastic and save an otherwise disappointing season.

So yes, I've been let down slightly but I still remain a dedicated fan of Family Guy and look forward to continued watching.
