The Simpsons Movie [2007]

The Simpsons Movie [2007]

me and my sister went to see this in cinemas and i certainly enjoyed watching it.the simpsons have gotten better over the years with all their episodes and treehouse of horror shorts and this is the biggest hit of all.i laughed hard at some parts and it was a genius film.the graphics were good, the acting was superb and it featured some action in it.as a fan of the simpsons i am glad i saw this.
its a great animated movie and adventure and its popularity has impressed too.futurama may be good but the problem is it dos,ent have futurama the movie in cinemas.the reason i gave this a five star rating is because of all the simpsons charecters and the great scene where it shows itchy and scratchy.i dont understand why some people have rated it 2,3 or 1 star.simpsons fans will surely enjoy it as much as i did.i also got it for DVD

Notting Hill [1999]

Notting Hill [1999]

I have a confession to make: I didn't really enjoy Pretty Woman that much, and Four Weddings and a Funeral (not to mention Mickey Blue Eyes, Two Weeks Notice and About a Boy) didn't really do it for me.

However, in Notting Hill, as far as I am concerned, everything comes together for Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, delivering a landmark in the gentle countryside of romantic comedy.

This is not the only time that Julia Roberts plays a version of herself -- she knowingly sends herself up in Ocean's Twelve. And this is not the only time Hugh Grant has played this particular character -- heck, it's the good-natured but over-witty English fopp he always plays. But the pairing of these two well-honed characters is exactly right in this movie, and nothing short of magic results. This is clear in the achingly sharp set pieces, such as when Grant pretends to be a journalist, and in the tenderly heart wrenching moments, such as when Grant overhears Roberts say he doesn't mean anything to her, and when she brings him the Chagall painting, and stands there smiling her trade-mark smile, as if it's the only argument she has left, while he rejects her.

What is remarkable about this film is that nothing very much really happens, there are not very many jokes, and love is discussed very little. Nonetheless, by the end I feel wrung through by the passion and emotion, and yet hugely entertained throughout. Cinema should show rather than tell, and this film does that better than any other romantic comedy I have ever seen. What's more, it's a film you can watch again and again, and desperately hope ever time that they will get together, even though it looks like they never will (and it carries on looking like that, despite knowing how it ends).

In addition to all this, the film has Hugh Grant's iconic walk through Notting Hill market, as the seasons change around him and his sister appears in arguments with three different men, while 'Ain't no sunshine when she's gone...' plays.

Utterly superb.

Pan's Labyrinth [2006]

Pan's Labyrinth [2006]

There is just one word to describe this movie, stunning. Hollywood just ca't make movies as good as this. I can't believe some people are giving it one star.

La Vie En Rose [2007]

La Vie En Rose [2007]

I dont know about you but when I watch a movie I know when I have been impressed because time just flies by.'La Vie En Rose' is a movie that would have failed if the role of Edith Piaf had been badly played.Without question the performance of Marion Cotillard is fantastic and she fully deserved her best actress Oscar. It is a display of passion, desire, heartbreak and turmoil and it is brilliantly executed. Some of the scenes as Piaf enters old age are superb.I say old age but Piaf actually wasn't that old when she died but Cotillard captures her stoop, her fragillity fantastically well.

Don't be put off by the sub-titles as this is a movie that will hook you and make you appreciate just how good acting can be.It isn't a one woman show by any means as there are other fine performances. But is is Marion Cotillard as 'the Little Sparrow' that will linger in the memory.

Robin Hood - Series 2 - Complete [2008]

Robin Hood - Series 2 - Complete [2008]

The first series of the BBC’s Saturday night reimagining of Robin Hood pretty much set the scene for what you can expect from this follow-up run. Historical accuracy? You can forget about that, as it’s chucked out along with parts of the Robin Hood legend itself, in favour of a rollicking good evening in front of the telly.

With Jonas Armstrong in the title role, this second series once more pits Robin Hood against the nasty Sheriff of Nottingham, played with utmost glee by Keith Allen. There’s also Lucy Griffiths’ Maid Marian, Gordon Kennedy in fine form as Little John and Harry Lloyd as Will Scarlett among the talented cast, who are clearly having a ball.

The show’s strengths are its commitment to outright entertainment, and a sense of humour that guarantees a good chuckle or two every episode. Mixed in with some fun action sequences, Robin Hood is at its best with your critical faculties set to neutral, and your brain set to simply enjoy some grand primetime fun. Granted, there are holes in the narrative you could ride a coach through, and not too much bears close inspective, but this second series builds well on the first, and sets the scene for a potentially explosive third season in 2009. And that’s well worth looking forward to. --Jon Foster

House - Season 1 (Hugh Laurie)

House - Season 1 (Hugh Laurie)

I was a latecomer to 'House' but better late than never.

Hugh Laurie plays the miserable yet brilliant Dr. House with some style. You almost forget he is a Brit.

I have watched many hospital dramas - ER, St Elsewhere, Casualty, etc, as there is something uniquely engaging about the medical environment. Those series have been mainly dramas while House is something else. It's a part drama, part sit-com and part geeky medical show.

The basic premise involves patients being admitted to Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital with very mixed symptoms that complicate the medical diagnoses. House uses his talented young medical team to treat the symptoms but the patients usually take a turn for the worse upon treatment - suggesting the case is even more complex. Just when you think there is nothing more to go on, House picks up on an apparently less relevant detail of the patient and bingo - he finds the answer. It's a bit like 'Columbo'.

Virtually every episode is top drawer from the one with the maternity ward epidemic (Maternity), the nun with the allergy (Damned If You Do), the Jazz musician that doesn't want to be resuscitated ('DNR') and the politician who rejects being diagnosed with AIDS ('Role Model').

Alongside the patient puzzle, there are sub-plots involving hospital politics and personality issues. House hates meeting his patients and his scenes in clinic are often hilarious.

I am a big Frasier fan and, despite its' sitcom status, I didn't think anything else could come close to it in terms of the storylines, witty dialogue and comedy; but House does on all counts.

Definitely, Maybe [2008]

Definitely, Maybe [2008]

Firstly, i'm a guy, and although i'm not aversed to the rom-com, i prefer the "blow things up" catagory. Nevertheless, my girlfriend and i got this and watched it on DVD last night and i have to say, WHAT A FANTASTIC FILM.

It's interesting, insightful, funny. I think i spent a lot of time on the edge of the sofa, interested to what happens next. No Spoiler here, but the end is how films should finish. I finished watching this film and instantly all i wanted to do was watch it again.

If you want a great film that you could probably watch a number of times and never get bored, BUY THIS FILM.

ohh and if you are a guy, the presence of Isla Fisher and Rachel Wiesz is never going to be a bad thing.
