Really enjoyed this film and I am really am not easy to please (so I am told). No need for me to add words to what other more literate reviewers have said. Really good.
Of it's type, this film is marvellous. I think it's all about taking life as it comes, and making the best of what it chucks at you from day to day - tomorrow is another day. Poppy makes a great character for this theme , and is extremely well played. Just don't expect any deep themes - at least , they weren't there for me.
I watched this film in Paris , with French subtitles, and it drew lots of laughs - but the English idiomatic London accent was completely lost in the absolutely dour translations ........ eg 'that was a journey and a half' became 'quelle adventure'!! - hardly capturing the jaunty feel of the character Poppy at all , which for me was what the film was all about........... so , there must be other levels. I suppose the humour itself just carried it along - I'm sure that even fluent english speaking French watchers could not have kept up with Poppy's dialogue, which was so well done , I thought.
Definitely a film to watch.
I would give this 4 1/2 stars if i could.
I agree it is not as good as the others, because (as has been mentioned) most of the characters are not as strong as previous seasons.
This storyline also contains the most implausable, ridiculous plotline of all the seasons. 24 has always had plotlines which borderline on unbelievable but we let them off because the show is that good. I think we should also let them off here too because the season is great, however there is just too much "oh come off it!!" about this one storyline that you never really forget how silly this is.
So we have weaker characters (still strong nevertheless) and an unbelievable plot aspect but apart from that we have a classic 24 with terrific episodes and moments you will love as much as before.
One thing i will say is that i love the ending, when Jack bears a bit of his soul and you really feel for him. It doesn't end explosively like the others but i really like the way they did this.
Not too long for redemption and season 7 now, cannot wait.
i've loved the Jonathan creek series right from the beginning, Alan Davies plays such a good part, along with Caroline Quentin, they go together like bread and butter, the banter between them is so amusing, never quite getting together, this box set was a very good investment as i will have hours and hours of my fave viewing for years to come. the story lines have all been good, and i love the explanations at the end of each programme.
It's great to have a DVD of a gig one has actually been to. I went to the Friday show, which of course didn't feature Jimmy Page, but it was still a great night. The atmostphere was amazing, which is captured quite well by the filming and the gig was definately a highlight of 2008 for me! A must for any Foo Fighters fan!

It's such a shame that Fox look like they are about to cancel this show as It's the most compelling 45mins on U.S. tv. There's plenty of other reviews so just to note that the U.S. Blu-Ray is region free, and will play on U.K. PS3's and Blu-Ray players, and contains all the extras from the American release that are sadly absent from the U.K. discs. Here's hoping judgement day is put off for another few seasons.
Is what I was mentally shouting at this DVD from about ten minutes in. I continued with that mantra to the very end. I don't know why I persevered. It doesn't improve. It completely failed to draw me into the story right from the start and I left the room a few times without pausing, which is never a good sign.
Simon Pegg's films just seem to get worse and worse. Shaun of the Dead was excellent, Hot Fuzz was similar but less funny, though it was saved by the action sequences, and Run Fat Boy Run is lame. The jokes are so unfunny and the acting is glib. It's boring and flat more than anything else. I suppose it kills time, but that's all it does.
Its only saving grace is the nice setting in London where we can see landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Gherkin, Canary Wharf and the Houses of Parliament. The sound track isn't even that good, so it isn't even an excuse to listen to some nice music.
This is definitely one to leave at the bottom of the DVD pile until you're really stuck for anything else to watch. Oh, and David Walliams's small part where he appears in the queue at the bakery where Thandie Newton works was really awful. What were they thinking? Is he Pegg's mate?
An enjoyable film , but not as powerful or as moving as the film Amistad in conveying the cruelty and injustice of slavery. Despite this, an enjoyable film, especially the rousing bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace at the end which was worth the price of the DVD alone.
This film is ok, the acting was quite poor and the story line a little non existent but on the whole it's watchable. Jamie Winstone is great in it. Don't watch it if you don't understand the youths of today's lingo as the whole film contains it. Apart from that I'd watch it again.... on a rainy day!
This is one of those dvds you can get out any time of year over and over again and it still appeals. Who would have thought combining a witch, a doctor and WWII would create such wonder.
The characters created by Angela Lansbury (Miss Price the good witch) and David Thomlinson (Dr Amelius Brown)are wonderful and the combination of settings, singing, dancing and animation are very well balanced. Our whole family love this film.
