My Name Is Earl - Series 3 - Complete [2007]

My Name Is Earl - Series 3 - Complete [2007]

It's such a shame that this series, bar a couple of episodes failed to live up to the high standards of 1 and 2. Completely agree with the reviewer whose first impulse was to buy this then realised that it wouldn't be watched and would be money wasted. Shame about the writers strike...shame about the prison and coma themes running too long. Understandably, most shows need some kind of re-inventing, and fresh character arcs to keep the interest up. I loved this show but sadly it feels that Earls creative sponge has been wrung dry. Although I would love for them to prove me wrong. Maybe doing a 4th series knowing before time it will be the last, could help the writers and producers end Earl with a high quality big bang.

Hellboy [2004]

Hellboy [2004]

I am a fan of Del Toro's Spanish language films, but had not seen Hellboy, dismissing it as teen-horror-flick nonsense. I hold my hands up and admit it, I was wrong!

I LOVE this film - and so does my 8 year old son. In fact, I've watched it (as I type this) 12 times. And yes, I still love it.

From a parent's point of view, there are a couple of scenes that you need to keep an eye on - when the mask-wearing baddie is laid out on the slab and you get to see what he looks like (yeuk!).

I'd advise watching this seated alongside anyone small. Although there are demonic references, the demons themselves are not much to give your kid nightmares about. TBH If you've seen Indianna Jones and the Crystal Skull, there isn't much here that will upset your kids.

What I didn't expect to find in a film about a monster-killing demon (yes, Hellboy is the good guy!) was the humour. There are some unexpectedly funny moments in Hellboy. My main surprise was that Idid not expect this to be a tender love story: A father's love for his son; Hellboy's love for a girl. But don't worry - it's not done in a fluffy- bunny way (c'mon, it's Del Toro we're talking about here!)

It's a movie with a point. My son has learned that it's not what you're born that makes you who you are, but what you do with your life. And that's a sentiment that we could all do with learning.

Enjoy it!

30 Rock - Series 1 - Complete [2006]

30 Rock - Series 1 - Complete [2006]

This is a great example of the type of ensemble comedy series that the Americans do so well. A great central cast, quirky storylines and entertaining guest appearances make this a must watch.
Would recommend this on a par with Scrubs, How I met Your Mother and Arrested Development.

Blackadder: Complete Series 4 (Blackadder Goes Forth)

Blackadder: Complete Series 4 (Blackadder Goes Forth)

Blackadder has always been one of the funniest and best written British Sitcoms around and this forth and last series is one of the best from the shows run. The six episodes of the series all show-off the great script and the brilliant performances by both the main cast and the guest stars. All the cast seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout the series but alongside Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson, my favourite has to be Stephen Fry for his brilliant portrayal of General Melchett.

Each episode never ceases to be funny and the last episode of the series is still surprisingly touching despite the number of times that I have watched it. The one slight problem with the series is the laughter track that can be somewhat intrusive at times but this is a flaw that most comedies of this era suffer from and doesn't distract too much from the overall enjoyment. Blackadder Goes Forth use to be my favourite Blackadder series and although Blackadder Three has now superseded it for my favour, it is still a very close second.

Desperate Housewives : Season 2 [2006]

Desperate Housewives : Season 2 [2006]

Everyone tells of how season 2 fails to compare to season 1 and 3, and I have to agree it was not as good! So why do I still give it 5 stars then? Well..... seasons 1 & 3 were easily at least 7 stars!!
An extremely watchable show, and I may have to buy the boxsets again as my constant watching of the DVDs has made the box very sruffy and bent!

Boyzone - Back Again - No Matter What - Live 2008 (NTSC)

It was a fantastic show. My favorite parts are the MJ medley and No Matter What - Stephen's voice is amazing.

Wire In The Blood Series 5 [2007]

Love Wire in the Blood. Think it's really intelligent, makes you pay attention. Tony Hill is an amazing character.
I'm just wondering why the Texas episode Prayer of the Bone was not included in the DVD, copyright? And could you get it somehow, or would you have to have an American DVD-player?

New Tricks : Complete BBC Series 4 [2007]
